Eggs is now Eggs in HD

Friday, April 15th, 2011

WOW.

It´s been an interesting couple of days. Eggs HD passed the scrutiny of the app review staff and was released in the wild on monday (11th). Of course I bought the app, downloaded it, and BAM!. The app wouldn´t even start but crashed on launch.

Panic at the disco.

Pulled the app from sales immediately, and started the obligatory headscratching.

Turns out Unity and iOS 4.3 will absolutely not work together. After reinstalling and recompiling and some more headscratching, including the humbling experience of setting up provisioning certificate development bla bla bla profiles, I got Eggs HD to practically the same state it was in previously, although this time compiled with iOS 4.2.

Started to think a bit about how to go about fixing the issue with app store. I made the decision to create a new app, and scrap the old one. The only reason for this is that the only possible marketing boost an indie developer can get is by being “new and noteworthy”. With approval times around 10 days, if we would update the already published version we would definitely stand the risk of never ever making it into the “new and noteworthy” category.

So it is, I create a new app, this time called “Eggs in HD”, since the old name was already taken ;)

Having worked up some steam during the process, I then proceeded to demand/beg for, what Apple call “expedited review”. some time later on i got this response;

“Thank you for submitting your request for an expedited review.
We are working hard to process submissions as quickly as we can and expect to complete the evaluation of your request within 1 to 2 business days.”

Kind of what you would expect. They would review my request in a couple of days. But at least I felt like I had done what I could to alleviate the problem.

When I woke up this morning I got this very nice mail from them;

“Thank you for contacting the App Review Team to request an expedited review. We have made a one-time exception and will proceed with an expedited review of Eggs in HD.”

Eggs in HD was ready for sale by the time I read the mail.

Rollercoaster is the work I think of.
